Legacy of Beauty
When you think of Africa, in its proud state of dark splendor
What do you see?
Naked women running the streets, basket of food on their head
Baby suckling at their bosom
Men in loin clothes with spears, fighting over the cannibalistic meal of the day
I am Africa the essence of what has been flows through my veins
I am the legend of rivers meeting, my chastity belt the Great Barrier Reef
Never let another belittle this great continent
Whose silent voice is resounding in every breathe of land that she bears
People are so ignorant!
Yesterday I happened to have a conversation with a man who thought that he was knowledgeable on Africa and us Africans! Ugh! Another one of my unfortunate American idiots who thinks the world revolves around himDont get me started!
So the conversation followed suite:
You know I visited Africa.
Really (with fiend interest) where?
Well the part with huts and stuff
Okay you know I am about to blow up at him right!
Huts and stuff You do realize that Africa is the continent
Well yeah! But..
You do realize that not everyone walks around naked living in huts and stuff
Well yeah! But..
Okay so where were you
Needless to say the rest of the conversation will remain un printed.
But what the Hell! Okay I know I am now an American with immigration working it out so I have the stamp and the passport, but is it really fair for us to look down the bridge of our noses at those from other countries. I dont really care If I came here in 1908! The fact of the matter is that my ancestors lived in a country where they were judged according to their bravery, strength of spirit and individualism, combined with their will to survive not judged because they have a funny looking nose, I weird color and a different accent.
So this is a proud shout out to all my fellow Africans out there. Represent! Be proud! You have a legacy! You let them know the legacy of your soul, the history of your beauty.

Hmmmm. I wish some insecure Africans would read your blog and change their impressions and understanding of what it means to be AFRICAN.
Sister, I have read your words, and I like what it says.
